Campaign Updates

Happy fall everyone!

It has been too long since our last entry, but I am glad to report that much has happened at the campaign since our congressional briefing in July, and I hope to provide more regular updates from now on. As you can see, our blog has a new look. We will be continuing to update the site for the next couple of weeks, and hope that when it is done, the site will be easier to maneuver and to use.

In August we had to say goodbye to one of our most important members- Dan Bernard. Dan was the primary founder of the Save Yar Campaign, and, not surprisingly, the person who most frequently wrote and edited this blog. Dan now lives with his family to the Middle East, and is working with U.S. AID. He continues to serve as a member of the Steering Committee of Child Protection International, the parent group to Save Yar.

Just as one member left the group, many of our departed members returned. We are happy to welcome back

  • Mariana Ferreiro, a law student who studied in Spain in the spring and lived in Miami this past summer. Mariana is currently writing a newsletter which we expect to send out to Save Yar and CPI supporters in October.
  • Alisha Hilde, a joint law and public policy student who spent the summer in Alaska working as a camp counselor. Alisha is currently creating projects for undergraduate campaign interns. She is also writing requests for event grants.
  • Dana Boraas, a law student who spent the summer working with the Center for Victims of Torture. Dana is currently working to set up a couple of events for the campaign this fall. We will let you know when these are scheduled!
  • Kou Solomon, who, of course, was in Sudan until July. Kou has now settled in, is back in classes, and is helping with the educational projects of the campaign.

In addition to the projects listed above, Save Yar/CPI members have several other projects in the works. We are working on a website, which we hope to have up in the next few weeks. We have started a new blog that you can read at www.cpinternational.wordpress.com. This blog will serve as a point to talk about issues related specifically to Child Protection International, and we will be regularly posting articles about children’s rights. We are working on a children’s book about a child soldier which we hope to have published in the coming year. And we have several research projects. We even have three new interns workign on reports that we hope to have available on our website by the end of the year.

As you can see, we have been quite busy over the past couple of months, and we hope that by the end of this year, you will have a chance to see much of our work through events and through our new website. We will be updating the blog more regularly, so keep an eye out for future information!
